Photographs from our tours in the area. Ein Akev is optional; we choose the route and stops together, according to your preferences and the conditions.
A half day gives us more time for viewpoints, less familiar corners, archaeological sites and the stories of life and farming in the desert. Your guide knows the terrain; together we shape a private route around what interests you.
The jeep and guide are yours alone. The tour can include Ein Akev or leave the spring out. That choice affects how much time remains for the other possibilities, so we decide together where to go.
Around Sde Boker are viewpoints, Nabataean cisterns, ancient farms and places that reveal how farming was possible in the Negev. A whole tour can be devoted to its less familiar corners. The guiding gives context to what you see, while your interests and available time shape our choice of stops.
For visitors who want the spring and a chance to swim, and are willing and able to walk there. Driving, walking and time at the spring are all part of the four hours. We plan the rest of the route around the time remaining.
If we include Ein Akev: the walk takes about 10 minutes each way and has no shade. Shade around the spring also varies with the hour and season. The pool is very deep—more than 7 metres. Swimming is at guests’ own responsibility; children must be closely supervised by their parents or accompanying adults.
Use the time for viewpoints, scenery and the subjects that intrigue you. Options include Nabataean cisterns, ancient forts, geology and its influence on people, or desert ecology. Four hours let us choose a direction together and discover some of the region’s hidden corners.
How do we decide whether to include the spring?
Would you like to swim in a natural desert pool? Are you willing and able to walk to it and back, about 300 metres each way without shade? If either answer is no, we may recommend other places you will enjoy more.
We also take account of the permitted visiting hours in the Zin Valley — from one hour after sunrise until one hour before sunset — the weather and flash-flood warnings. Taking all these into account, we choose the route together. You are welcome to consult us by WhatsApp, phone or email.
Some guests want to keep exploring and asking questions; others enjoy a shaded pause with freshly brewed coffee in the desert. A coffee stop can be included on a four-hour tour according to the group’s wishes and the time available.
These places and subjects are options for building your tour. They are not a fixed checklist promised on every outing.
Yes. The tour is just for your party, and we choose the route together according to your wishes and the available time.
No. Your wish to swim, the walk, other interests and the visiting conditions all help us decide whether the spring is right for your group.
There are many viewpoints and places of interest, including Nabataean cisterns and ancient farms. We can explore ancient desert agriculture and less familiar sites, choosing according to your interests and our time.
Bring a swimsuit and towel if we include Ein Akev and you want to enter the water.
A coffee stop depends on the group and the time available. You can enjoy coffee prepared in the desert, or devote the time to more exploring and guiding.
